Trent Williams Trade “Still On The Table” For Browns

Josina Anderson of ESPN reports that trading for disgruntled Redskins LT Trent Williams is “still on the tableโ€ for the Browns.

However, Anderson’s source adds that “nothing is imminent or super close right now.

Cleveland is reportedly “keeping their thumb on the situation” to which Anderson explains that “something still may, or may not happen with Trent before or after the Draft.

Many expect the Browns to take one of the top-four offensive tackle prospects in this year’s draft. Although, Browns GM Andrew Berry has been clear that all options remain on the table for them in round one.

Former Redskins GM Scot McCloughan recently made the case during radio interview for a team acquiring Williams over drafting one of the top offensive tackle prospects.

โ€œHeโ€™d be the first tackle taken this year in the draft, hands down, . . . even at his age,โ€ McCloughan said, via the Washington Post. โ€œYou know what you got. You bring him in, youโ€™re going to get three to four years out of him, and itโ€™s going to be Pro Bowl years. Heโ€™s legit one of the top five tackles in the NFL, hands down, right now. โ€ฆ Heโ€™s a great guy and a great teammate. Players love being around him.โ€

Washington has been reportedly asking for a second-round pick as a starting point in negotiations for Williams since giving his agent permission to seek a trade.

However, the Redskins maintain a trade has been slowed by Williams’ desire for a new contract. The veteran still has one year left on his deal with a $12.5 million base salary that is not guaranteed.

Williams’ agent refuted the notion that Williams’ contract demands are impacting a potential deal.

Williams, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Redskins back in 2010. He currently in the final year of his five-year, $66 million contract that includes $43.25 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $12.5 million for the 2020 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading or releasing Williams will free up $12.5 million of available cap space while creating $2 million in dead money.

In 2018, Williams started 13 games for the Redskins.  Pro Football Focus rated Williams as the No. 21 tackle out of 80 qualifying players.

Weโ€™ll have more regarding Williams as the news is available.
