ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports thatย Steelers WR Lance Moore has asked Pittsburgh for his release.
Moore mentioned after the season that his year with the Steelers did not go the way he was hoping it would.
“It didn’t go the way I’d hoped it would go, but that’s life in the NFL sometimes,” Moore said on Jan. 5, via Scott Brown of ESPN. “It’s unfortunate that it unfolded the way that it did, but I enjoyed my time here this season.
“I just want to play … whether that’s here or somewhere else. I’d love to be here, I’d love to be a part of this offense, but I think those are decisions that have to be made down the line.”
The Steelers signed Moore, who wasย an unrestrictedย free agent, to a two-year contract worth $3 million last year.
Moore, 31, is scheduled to make a base salary of $1.5 million for the 2015 season and has a cap figure of $1,822,500. According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Moore would free up $1.5 million in cap space, so there is a decent chance that the Steelers will grant him his release.
In 2014, Moore caught 14 passes for 198 yards receiving and two touchdowns over the course of 14 games.
