Kareem Hunt Enters Counseling For Alcohol & Anger Management, Several Teams Monitoring Situation

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, citing sources with knowledge of his situation, reports that former Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt has entered into counseling this week for alcohol and anger management.

Rapoport says that this will be a “long process” for Hunt, but it shows he acknowledges the seriousness of his situation and that his every move will be scrutinized from here on.

According to Rapoport, Hunt has been in touch with representatives from the NFLPA and the NFL over the past week and the expectation is that he’ll meet with league officials for an interview in the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, Jason La Canfora reports that numerous teams remain in contact with Hunt as he undergoes counseling and awaits discipline. In fact, La Canfora says that several teams have reached out to him since he cleared waivers and are expected to continue to monitor his progress and recovery this offseason.

The NFL has yet to suspend Hunt while they conduct their investigation into three separate incidents over the past year. For the time being, Hunt remains on the commissioner’s exempt list.

Previous reports have said that Hunt is facing more than the baseline six-game suspension for violations of the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

Hunt, 23, is a former third-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2017. He was in the second year of his four-year, $3.263-million contract and set to make base salaries of $555,000 and $645,000 over the next two years of the agreement when the Chiefs waived him last week.

Hunt officially cleared waivers on Monday and is now a free agent.

In 2018, Hunt has appeared in 11 games for the Chiefs and rushed for 824 yards on 181 carries (4.6 YPC) to go along with 26 receptions for 378 yards receiving and 14 total touchdowns.
