NFL Sets 2018 Salary Cap At $177.2M

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the league has notified teams that the 2018 salary cap has been set at $177.2 million.

This comes in just shy of the estimates of $178-$180 million that had been tossed out over the past few months.

In 2017, the salary cap was set at $167 million per team, so this is still an increase of just over six percent.

The salary cap has been on the rise for the past few seasons after remaining flat for the first few years of the current collective bargaining agreement.

NFL teams are required to spend 89 percent of their cap and cash spending has to be 95 percent of the salary cap limit over a period of four years or the difference will go to the union, who would distribute the money between the players.
