Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that former No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell has “significant” interest from more than one team.
This comes after Russell has managed to drop over 50 pounds and is now reportedly down to a 265 pounds.
- Rapoport mentions that Russell is unlikely to hold a Pro Day-style workout, but will instead throw for interested teams.
- Rapoport adds that Russell is “more than open” to signing with a CFL team in the CFL and has already received plenty of interest from Canadian football teams.
Russell, 27, has been out of the league since 2009, but his commitment to getting back into game-shape should be enough for teams to at least watch him work out. It’s hard to say if anyone would be willing to gamble on him at this point in time, but there’s little downside to offering him an invite to compete for a roster spot.
