Mike Garafolo confirms the news and adds that there are “strong rumblings” about McAdoo to the Giants right now.
According to Garafolo, former Dolphins HC Joe Philbin could be in line for a role with the Giants as well.
- Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the word has spread how much the Giants like former Falcons HC Mike Smith and Doug Marrone as candidates for their head-coaching vacancy.

Now that the Giants have officially moved on from long-time head coach Tom Coughlin, speculation is already beginning to surface regarding potential candidates for the position.

Payton is likely available if a team is willing to trade something close to a second-round pick for the head coach. On top of that, Payton has ties to the franchise, which could be appealing to ownership.
McDaniels has been a popular name in recent years and you would have to think he would at least consider the idea of taking the Giants’ job if they were interested.
Others have suggested OC Ben McAdoo as an internal candidate.
