2020 NFL Mock Draft: Two Rounds

Here’s my first 2020 NFL Mock Draft of the draft season. There are two rounds so be sure to click the link at the bottom to see Round Two.

2020 NFL Mock Draft

1. Cincinnati Bengals: LSU QB Joe Burrow

No surprises to open the draft. The Bengals come away with the 2019 Heisman trophy winner and begin a new era in Cincinnati.

2. Washington Redskins: OSU DE Chase Young

While there has been some speculation about Washington possibly trading down from No. 2 overall, the opportunity to draft an impact pass rusher proves to be too good to pass up for new Redskins HC Ron Rivera

3. Detroit Lions: OSU CB Jeff Okudah

The Lions are an interesting position, as it’s possible a team could look to trade up for one of the remaining quarterback prospects. Instead, the Lions hold on to the pick and select the top cornerback prospect in Okudah, who will get the opportunity to replace Darius Slay long term.

4. New York Giants: Iowa OT Tristan Wirfs

Recent reports have linked the Giants to Wirfs, who would give them a long-term left tackle prospect to block for second-year QB Daniel Jones. Current left tackle Nate Solder has been mentioned as a potential cap casualty either this summer or next year for the Giants.

5. Miami Dolphins: Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa

There has been buzz building for the Dolphins to take Justin Herbert at No. 4, but I’m giving Tagovailoa to Miami, at least for the time being. While there are clear injury concerns with Tua, all of his medical checkups have been positive up to this point and he offers the kind of upside you’re looking for from a top-five pick.

6. Los Angeles Chargers: Oregon QB Justin Herbert

The Chargers currently have Tyrod Taylor and Easton Stick on their roster at the quarterback position. A down year has left them in position to finally address the quarterback position long-term and Herbert checks a lot of boxes as a quarterback.

7. Carolina Panthers: Clemson LB Isaiah Simmons

The Panthers lost LB Luke Kuechly to retirement this offseason and while they recently signed Tahir Whitehead to a contract, Simmons would give Carolina and new HC Matt Rhule a versatile defensive player to start reshaping their new defense around.

8. Arizona Cardinals: Alabama OT Jedrick Wills

It’s hard to say what order the top-four offensive tackles will be selected at this point, but Wills falling to No. 8 seems like great news for the Cardinals, who could use a solid offensive tackle to play opposite of D.J. Humphries. Arizona re-signed veteran OT Marcus Gilbert, but he’s unfortunately working his way back from a torn ACL.

9. Jacksonville Jaguars: Auburn DT Derrick Brown

Jacksonville comes away with, arguably, the best interior defensive line prospect in this year’s draft class, which works well for them, considering they opted to trade Calais Campbell to the Ravens and release Marcell Dareus for cap relief this offseason.

10. Cleveland Browns: Georgia OT Andrew Thomas

The Browns are still searching for a long-term replacement for future Hall of Fame LT Joe Thomas and they go with a former five-star recruit out of Georgia. Cleveland is really in a great spot at N0. 10, considering that any of the top-four offensive tackle prospects could end up here.

11. New York Jets: Louisville OT Mekhi Becton

While they may not have a top-10 pick this year, the Jets find themselves in an enviable spot with one of the top offensive tackles on the board along with all of the receivers. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Jets went receiver here, but the opportunity to get a future left tackle to protect Sam Darnold in the coming years makes a lot of sense, especially with the depth at receiver that will be available later on.

12. Las Vegas Raiders: Alabama WR Jerry Jeudy

Last year, the Raiders swung and missed on the Antonio Brown trade, but now get their pick of the receivers in what could be a historically deep class. Jeudy is a high-floor prospect who should be able to step in and produce in year one.

13. San Francisco 49ers: Oklahoma WR CeeDee Lamb

The 49ers lost Emmanuel Sanders in free agency and could use a true No. 1 receiver to complement what has been a dynamic rushing attack under Kyle Shanahan. Lamb would give San Francisco a big-play threat to help round out a very good offense.

14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: South Carolina DL Javon Kinlaw

This may not be the Buccaneers’ biggest need, but they’re drafting the best player available here and come away with one of the best defensive prospects in this year’s class. Lance Zierlein comps Kinlaw to Rams DL Michael Brockers, who played opposite of Ndamukong Suh a few years ago. A defensive front of Kinlaw, Suh and Vita Vea would be formidable.

15. Denver Broncos: Alabama WR Henry Ruggs III

Ruggs to the Broncos just seems to make a lot of sense. Denver could really use another receiver and Ruggs gives them a dynamic weapon with elite speed capable of stretching opposing defenses.

16. Atlanta Falcons: Florida CB C.J. Henderson

Atlanta made the decision to release CB Demond Trufant for cap relief last month and are currently thin at the cornerback position. The good news is that Henderson falls to them at No. 16 overall and should hopefully give them a long-term prospect to build around in their secondary.

17. Dallas Cowboys: LSU DE K’Lavon Chaisson

The Cowboys allowed Robert Quinn to depart in free agency, which leaves a hole at defensive end opposite to DeMarcus Lawerence. Dallas has since signed Aldon Smith and are prepared to welcome back Randy Gregory if he’s reinstated by the NFL, but it’s hard to bank on either being contributors at this point. Interestingly enough, Lance Zierlein comps K’Lavon Chaisson to Aldon Smith.

18. Miami Dolphins: Houston OT Joshua Jones

The Dolphins currently have a Julie’n Davenport and Jesse Davis in line to be their starting offensive tackles in 2020. While they may not have got one of the top-four players at the position, Jones isn’t a bad consolidation at No. 18 overall and should give them a potential solution at left tackle long term.

19. Las Vegas Raiders: Clemson CB A.J. Terrell

The Raiders addressed the receiver position at No. 12 and fill a big need at cornerback by taking another Clemson product to complement Trayvon Mullen in their secondary.

20. Jacksonville Jaguars: Utah CB Jaylon Johnson

Jacksonville needs help at a number of position, but cornerback stands out as a major need with Rashaan Melvin and D.J. Hayden in line to be their top options in 2020. Johnson Johnson offers good size and athletic traits that should help in the NFL. Lance Zierlein comps him to Shaquill Griffin of the Seahawks.

21. Philadelphia Eagles: LSU WR Justin Jefferson

The Eagles have yet to address the receiver position this offseason and getting Jefferson at No. 21 overall is likely too good to pass up. Jefferson is considered to be a good route runner with the physical ball skills and should be a solid go-to option for Carson Wentz in the years to come.

22. Minnesota Vikings: Clemson WR Tee Higgins

The Vikings made the decision to trade Stefon Diggs to the Bills for solid draft compensation. However, this leaves them without a true No. 2 receiver to go along with Adam Thielen. Higgins is a long and rangy receiver with great ball skills, who could be a good option for the Vikings in the red zone.

23. New England Patriots: Iowa DE A.J. Epenesa

Epenesa didn’t have a great Combine, but he’s been a very productive player and offers good size and length. The Patriots have ties to the Iowa program and could use a pass rusher with decent upside like Epenesa offers.

24. New Orleans Saints: LSU LB Patrick Queen

The Saints have one of the deepest rosters in the NFL with very few roster needs. While not a pressing issue, adding an impact linebacker like Queen would give the Saints a long-term replacement for Kiko Alsonso, who agreed to a pay cut earlier this offseason and will be an unrestricted free agent in 2021.

25. Minnesota Vikings: LSU CB Kristian Fulton

Cornerback is a glaring need for the Vikings after they lost Trae Waynes and Mackensie Alexander to the Bengals in free agency. Fulton is a former five-star recruit with a background in track who produced a solid season in coverage at LSU as a senior.

26. Miami Dolphins: Alabama S Xavier McKinney

The Dolphins have an obvious hole to will at free safety and McKinney seems like a great fit for HC Brian Foles’ defensive system, consider his versatility and range.

27. Seattle Seahawks: Penn State DE Yetur Gross-Matos

The Seahawks signed Bruce Irvin and Benson Mayowa in free agency, but coming away from the draft with another edge prospect. Gross-Matos may need some time, but he offers good length and high upside at a premium position.

28. Baltimore Ravens: Oklahoma LB Kenneth Murray

Inside linebacker is among the top needs for the Ravens and it just so happens that one of the top prospects falls to them at No. 28 overall. Lance Zierlein comps Murray to 49ers ILB Kwon Alexander

29. Tennessee Titans: TCU DT Ross Blacklock

Tennessee doesn’t have a ton of roster holes to address in the draft, but they’re getting good value on a defensive tackle at this point who could serve as a long-term replacement to Jurrell Casey

30. Green Bay Packers: Baylor WR Denzel Mims

The Packers have resisted using a first-round pick on the receiver position for several years now, but it’s time to make a serious investment in a No. 2 receiver to complement Davante Adams in the years to come. Mims had a great combine who offers the kind of speed, length and catching ability Green Bay could use.

31. San Francisco 49ers: Texas A&M DT Justin Madubuike

San Francisco made the decision to trade DeForest Buckner to the Colts this offseason and while they were able to retain Arik Armstead, it certainly would not hurt for them to continue to bolster their front-seven, which was one of the best in the NFL last year.

32. Kansas City Chiefs: Georgia RB D’Andre Swift

This is a case of the rich simply getting richer. Swift is, arguably, the most dynamic running back in this year’s draft and would give Kansas City a new dimension coming out of the backfield.

  1. Tua will not go top 10. Writer is clueless. He just copies what ge reads like everyone else, if you watch tua he looks like a 2nd rounder.

    • Hey Bob,

I wouldn’t rule out Tua dropping due to the obvious medical concerns. I didn’t copy anyone for this mock draft, seeing as most have Herbert going to the Dolphins at No. 5. Thanks for the comment. Much appreciated.

  2. Don’t agree with either of those picks for SF. If they can’t get Jeudy or Ruggs, they’ll likely trade down or take their OT there at 13. They are trading out of #31 almost certainly to get more picks, and then a 2nd time later to get more. I’ve done the scenarios, it just makes sense and they don’t have alot of salary space to pay 1st rd players either.

    • I considered giving SF Jeudy instead of Lamb. I also agree with you about the likelihood of them trading down from No. 31 overall, especially if Jordan Love falls that far.
