Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the 49ers and veteran LT Joe Staley have agreed to terms on a reworked contract for 2018 season and beyond.
According to Rapoport, Staley will make $17.4 million over the next two years, which is an increase of $6.4 million from the $11 million he was in line to make. In 2018, Staley’s salary increases from $5.5 million to $8.72 million.
Staley has come up as a potential trade option for teams in need of left tackle help in recent years, but the 49ers have ultimately passed on opportunities to move him.
Staley, 33, is a former first-round pick of the 49ers back in 2007. He has played all 11 seasons in San Francisco and is in the fifth-year of his six-year, $52.45 million contract.
In 2017, Staley appeared in 15 games for the 49ers and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 2 offensive tackle out of 81 qualifying players.
