Per Eric Branch, the 49ers lost both S Tarvarius Moore and OT Justin Skule for the season in practice Monday.
Moore tore his Achilles and Skule suffered a torn ACL. It’s a brutal set of injuries for a San Francisco team that has struggled in that area in recent seasons.
Expect the team to place both players on injured reserve shortly. San Francisco has already signed S Tony Jefferson to bolster its depth at safety.
Moore, 24, was drafted by the 49ers in the third round out of Southern Mississippi in 2018. He’s entering the final year of a four-year, $3.351 million rookie deal and was set to make a base salary of $920,000 in 2021.
In 2020, Moore appeared in all 16 games for the 49ers and recorded 52 total tackles, one forced fumble, one recovery and one pass defense. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 61 safety out of 94 qualifying players.
Skule, 24, was a sixth-round pick by the 49ers out of Vanderbilt in 2019. He signed a four-year rookie deal worth $2.699 million and is set to make a base salary of $850,000 in 2021.
In 2020, Skule appeared in all 16 games for the 49ers and made four starts.
