49ers HC Kyle Shanahan announced after Sunday’s win over the Bengals that LT Joe Staley suffered a broken fibula.
Shanahan mentioned that Staley is expected to miss eight weeks and they plan to carry him on their active roster instead of placing him on injured reserve in the coming days.
According to Shanahan, Mike McGlinchey wonโt move from right tackle, which means Justin Skule, Daniel Brunskill or a free agent will serve as the team’s left tackle while Staley is sidelined.
Staley, 35, is a former first-round pick of the 49ers back in 2007. He has played all 12 seasons in San Francisco and was entering the final year of a six-year, $52.45 million contract when he agreed to a two-year, $27.6 million extension this past June.
In 2019, Staley appeared in two games for the 49ers, making two starts at left tackle.
We’ll have more regarding Staley as the news is available.
