49ers Release OL Garry Gilliam

The San Francisco 49ers announced Wednesday that they have released OL Garry Gilliam.

“We would like to thank Garry for his contributions to the team the last two seasons,” said 49ers GM John Lynch. “He filled in admirably when called upon and was a consummate teammate. We wish him and his family all the best.”

Gilliam, 28, wound up signing on with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of Penn State back in 2014. He managed to make the 53-man roster during his rookie season and spent three years in San Francisco before signing a one-year, $2.2 million restricted offer sheet with the 49ers.

The 49ers later signed Gilliam to a two-year, $8 million contract last season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Gilliam will free up $5,050,000 of available cap space while creating no dead money.

In 2018, Gilliam appeared in all 16 games for the 49ers and played 85 total snaps.
