Field Yates reports that the 49ers and veteran G Tom Compton have agreed to rework his contract. Compton’s base salary will drop to $1.05 million from $2.15 million with the chance to still earn money through bonuses.
This move likely ensures his spot on the roster as a backup after G Daniel Brunskill was named the starter at right guard.
Compton, 30, is a former sixth-round pick of the Redskins back in 2012. Compton spent four years in Washington before signed a one-year contract with the Falcons in 2016.
Compton spent a year with the Bears and Vikings before the Jets signed him for the 2019 season. The 49ers had signed Compton to a one-year, $3 million deal earlier this year.
In 2019, he appeared in 14 games for the Jets and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 66 overall guard out of 82 qualifying players.
