Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the 49ers are working out some free agent defensive backs on Wednesday includingย Leon Hall andย Jairus Byrd.
This is actually the first reported interest in either player since they became available.
Hall, 32, is a former first-round pick of the Bengals back in 2007. He spent nine years of his NFL career with the Bengalsย before signing a one-year contract with the Giants last August.
In 2016, Hall appeared in 12 games and recorded 31 tackles, two sacks, an interception, a forced fumble and two pass defenses for the Giants.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 43 cornerback out of 111 qualifying players.
Byrd, 30, is a former second-round pick of the Bills back in 2009. He spent five years in Buffalo before signing a six-year, $54 million contract that included $26.3 million guaranteed with the Saints as a free agent back in 2014.
Byrd was set to make a base salary of $7.9 million for the 2017 season when the Saints designated him as a post-June 1 release.
In 2016, Byrd appeared in all 16 games for the Saints and recorded 82 tackles, two interceptions and four pass defenses.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 46 safety out of 89 qualifying players.
