49ers WR Jerome Simpson Suspended Six games

The San Francisco 49ers announced Tuesday that veteran WR Jerome Simpson has been suspended for the first six games of the 2015 season forย violating the substance abuse policy.

โ€œThe probability of a suspension was known when we signed Jerome,โ€ 49ers GMย Trent Baalke said in a statement.ย โ€œSince joining the 49ers, Jerome has proven to be a great teammate. Although he will not be able to participate in the first six weeks of the season, Jerome has done everything asked of him, both on and off the field. We are in full support of the NFLโ€™s decision, and look forward to Jeromeโ€™s future contributions to our organization.โ€

Simpson was previously suspended by the NFL forย three games for anย incident in which he wasย arrested for violating a limited drivers license, marijuana possession, and an open bottle.

Even so, San Francisco wound up signing him to aย two-year contract worthย $1.73 millionย back in March.

Simpson, 29, hasn’t appeared in an NFL since the 2013 season when heย caught 48 receptions for 726 yards receiving and a touchdown.
