AFC Notes: Broncos, Chiefs, Colts

Broncos

Mike Klis of 9News writes that “something happened” with Broncos QB Paxton Lynch in the final two weeks of offseason workouts.

โ€œHis switch was flipped,โ€ Klis writes. โ€œHe started to get it. He started to play as if he was doing just that โ€” playing. Playing and not thinking about his protections and hot reads and coverages and delivering the ball on time.โ€

Lynch mentioned that the increased reps against the first-team defense have really helped him out a lot in terms of his progression.

โ€œI mean the more reps Iโ€™m getting with these guys, the more I get to go against the defense and see the looks live compared to just on paper, itโ€™s helping me a lot,โ€™โ€™ Lynch said. โ€œI think each practice Iโ€™ve progressively got better.โ€

Lynch added that the competition has made him and Trevor Siemian better players.

โ€œYeah, I mean itโ€™s been fun,โ€™โ€™ Lynch said. โ€œI think itโ€™s made me and Trevor both better players going through it. Also, I think itโ€™s made the offense even better as well. Us competing, making us play better, making the guys around us play better.โ€™โ€™

Chiefs

Chiefs RB Charcandrick West mentioned during an appearance on “NFL Total Access” that he was caught off guard by first-round QB Patrick Mahomes‘ “cannon” arm.

“Man, this kid can throw the football,” West said. “Man, I mean, I ran I think a slant route and I was like, woah. It was crazy. He’s got a cannon on him.”
