Bears Place DE Willie Young On I.R. & Sign DE Austen Lane

The Chicago Bears announced Tuesday that they have placed DE Willie Young on season-ending injured reserve and signed DE Austen Lane.

The Bears’ defensive end unfortunately suffered a a torn Achilles tendon during Sunday’s loss to the Lions.

Young has proven to be the Bears best free agent signing, so it would be disappointing if he sustained a major injury towards the end of the year.

Young, 29, signed a three-year, $9 million contract that included $3.95 million guaranteed with the Bears back in March. He has base salaries of  $2.45 million coming his way over the remainder of his contract.

His 2014 season comes to an end with him recording 40 tackles, 9.5 sacks, and a forced fumble over the course of 15 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 40 defensive end in a 4-3 system out of 58 qualifying players.
