Bears Re-Signing CB Marcus Cooper & LS Patrick Scales

Bears GM Ryan Pace told reporters on Tuesday that they’ve agreed to terms with CB Marcus Cooper and LS Patrick Scales.

Adam Caplan first reported that the Bears were expected to re-sign Cooper to a one-year contract worth up to $2.5 million for the 2018 season, so this doesn’t come as a big surprise.

Cooper, 28, is a former seventh-round pick of the 49ers back in 2013. He was, unfortunately, unable to make the 49ers’ 53-man roster during his rookie season, but was later claimed off of waivers by the Chiefs.

The Chiefs traded Cooper to the Cardinals in return for a conditional 2018 seventh-round pick and he played his contract before signing a three-year, $16 million deal with the Bears last year. He was set to make base salaries of $5 million over the final two years when the Bears cut him loose this offseason.

In 2017, Cooper appeared in 15 games for the Bears and recorded 18 tackles, no interceptions and three pass defenses.
