49ers
Raheem Morris is in his first season as the 49ers’ defensive coordinator after serving as the Falcons’ head coach. San Francisco HC Kyle Shanahan praised Morris, saying he’s done a great job despite missing key players like EDGE Nick Bosa, EDGE Mykel Williams, DT James Thompson Jr., and DT Alfred Collins.
“I think he’s done a great job,” Shanahan said, via 49ersWire. “He’s been mixing it up in all three of these games. He’s had a ton of challenges, just with some of the guys he’s been missing, especially when you miss that many at one position, just being with the D-Line. He’s been awesome since the day he got here. He brings a lot of energy to the group and gets those guys to play the right way and I think he’s also done a hell of a job schematically.”
Rams
Rams HC Sean McVay commented on pass rusher Myles Garrett, who recently underwent surgery and has no timetable for return.
“Myles is good. I’ve seen him in there, he physically looks good,” McVay said, via Pro Football Talk. “He’s got a good look in his eye. It’s been good having him in and out of a lot of the meetings while he’s attacking his rehab. He’s making good progress, but as far as a specific timeline, I’m not ready to give you guys that. As soon as I have those things I’ll give you guys updates.”
Seahawks
Seahawks S Nick Emmanwori underwent ankle surgery back in July, which caused him to miss the season opener. Emmanwori said he felt good in OTAs, but it was the right choice to operate to avoid more issues during the season.
“Everything was kind of feeling good in OTAs,” Emmanwori said, via Ari Horton of the team’s site. “But it was different doctor opinions and stuff, trying to figure what was the best thing to do. Ultimately, the thought process was go ahead and get it done with; over with. I didn’t want to be in Week 8, Week 9 or something and it’s still bugging me and I can’t be out there in the middle of the season. That would definitely make things weird for the team and everybody.”
Emmanwori initially suffered the injury during practice ahead of the Super Bowl but called it a “no-brainer” to play through the pain.
“Dealing with that through the Super Bowl, my mindset was it wouldn’t have felt complete for me to work my way all the way up through the season, all the playoff games, just not to play in the Super Bowl,” Emmanwori said. “Last game of the season. It was a no-brainer for me to go out there. It was worth it. Everything that came with it, Super Bowl champions, great season. Ended it off right. I knew I wouldn’t have slept great if I didn’t play in that game. It would’ve been eating at me. I had to do it; that’s the type of dude I am. It was worth it, it was great.”
Emmanwori said his ankle is feeling good now and his recovery has gone as expected.
“It’s been feeling good,” Emmanwori said. “Everything’s going along kind of as we expected, kind of weird offseason. So having the challenge to ramp up at different times and trying to figure out a good plan, which we’ve been following, and it’s been pretty good getting me up to speed.”
