Redskins Sign RB Adrian Peterson To One-Year, Minimum Deal

Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo are reporting that the Redskins are signing veteran RB Adrian Peterson to a contract on Monday.

  • According to Field Yates, Peterson receives a one-year contract worth the veteran minimum of $1.015 million. He’ll count just $630,000 against the cap as a minimum salary benefit player.

Washington has been dealing with a number of injuries at running back, which led to them hosting Peterson, Jamaal Charles and Orleans Darkwa for visits in recent days.

Peterson gives the Redskins a two-down running back to help carry load for them this season, assuming of course that he makes the team.

Peterson, 32, is a former first-round pick of the Vikings back in 2007. After 10 seasons in Minnesota, Peterson signed a two-year, $7 million contract with the Saints and stands to make base salaries of $1 million and $1.05 million over the next two years.

The Saints elected to trade Peterson to the Cardinals for a 2018 sixth-round pick last year. However, Arizona cut him loose this past March in a move that freed up $2,881,250 of available cap space.

In 2017, Peterson appeared in 10 games for the Saints and Cardinals and rushed for 529 yards on 156 carries (3.4 YPC) to go along with 11 receptions for 70 yards receiving and two total touchdowns.

We have him featured in our Top 50 Available 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
