Broncos Rookie LB Jonathon Cooper Undergoing Non-Invasive Heart Procedure, Will Miss Rookie Camp

Mike Klis of 9 News reports that Broncos seventh-round LB Jonathon Cooper will undergo minimally invasive heart surgery next week to correct an issue he played through most of his athletic career.

<a rel=According to Klis, the expectation is that Cooper will miss team activities for a few weeks, but he should be ready for the start of training camp.

The Broncos will open rookie minicamp next weekend.

Cooper was born two months premature with a caved-in chest and it was later discovered that he has an irregular or rapid heartbeat condition known as Wolff-Parkinson-White.

“It was a difficult time my freshman year (in high school),” Cooper told 9NEWS of his heart condition. “Ever since I’ve been OK. This recent EKG, I have to figure things out but I feel fine. I should be ready to go very, very soon.”

Cooper, 23, was a two-year starter at Ohio State and a third-team All-Big Ten selection as a senior. The Broncos used the No. 239 overall pick in the seventh round on him.

For his college career, Cooper appeared in 45 games, making 25 starts and recording 75 tackles, 10 sacks, a forced fumble and two passes defended.

We wish Cooper the best in his recovery.
