AFC Notes: Maxx Crosby, Klint Kubiak, Bo Nix, Broncos, Raiders

Broncos

Broncos QB Bo Nix enters the 2026 season after suffering a fractured right ankle in the AFC Divisional Round. Denver OT Mike McGlinchey is confident that Nix is “ready to go” after training with him throughout the offseason.

“I think Bo’s healthy, ready to go,” McGlinchey said, via Jeff Legwold of ESPN. “He was here with us, there was a group of us that live here full time [in the offseason] that train here full time. I saw him every step of the way. He was checking all his boxes, he was attacking his rehab hard like he attacks everything.”

Nix has one year remaining on his rookie contract and has a fifth-year option available for 2028. Broncos owner Greg Penner made clear that they want their quarterback to stick around long-term.

“Obviously we want Bo here long term, but we’re really focused on getting ready for this season, putting a competitive team on the field,” Penner said. “I’ll leave that, obviously, to [general manager] George [Paton] and Sean.”

When asked if he hopes to sign a long-term deal with Denver, Nix said it’s no question that he wants to stay with the team.

“I think that question sort of answers itself,” Nix said. “I think everyone that’s in the league wants that long-term extension and wants to play for their home team. For me, I love being here. I love where I’m at. I love this team. I’ll play as long as they want to have me.”

Raiders

Raiders HC Klint Kubiak said that DE Maxx Crosby will not be receiving any more preseason reps.

“I think all players need the reps,” Kubiak said, via Pro Football Talk. “I’m not going to be giving him any, though.”

  • Kubiak refused again to name a starting quarterback for Week 1: “I just don’t think it ever benefits a player to know that they have a spot secured, and if there’s always a little bit of uneasiness about that, that benefits the whole team, the player and the team.” (Warren)
  • Kubiak was asked whether it’s possible for the Raiders to keep three quarterbacks on their 53-man roster: “Those guys are gonna make us make hard decisions, which is a great thing to have that competition. We’re talking through it. It’s part of the discussion.” (Warren)

Raiders

Maxx Crosby returned to the Raiders after his trade to the Ravens fell through earlier this offseason. Crosby said his intuition quickly told him something was off when arriving in Baltimore.

“God’s blessed me in a lot of different ways. I got my flaws. I got my strengths,” Crosby said, via Albert Breer of SI. “One thing is, I feel like my intuition, I can read a room and I understand people and energy and vibes. That’s something I could pick up real fast. And I just felt like in that situation, it didn’t feel right when it was happening. And it has nothing to do with or against them at that time. Like, it was what it was, how that whole situation went down. It felt like the world was telling me I’m not leaving, even when I was in the Baltimore city limits. Just being 100% honest.”

Crosby said he fought the temptation to respond to people criticizing why the trade was rescinded, and that he feels like he grew a lot mentally because of the situation.

“As a young guy, I would react a certain way, or get emotional or pissed off at this person, like, trust me, there’s a lot of people I have on a list that I don’t like anymore, because of that,” Crosby said. “And I’m just not going to give them a platform, because they want to talk about me, because I’m a popular subject at that time because of all the drama and stuff going on. But it gave me a beautiful perspective on what the world is like, especially when things are going the other way. I learned a lot. I evolved a lot. It allowed me to, really, take a step back so I can take three forward. And I’m in an incredible place. And I know where everybody stands. And that’s actually … it’s a beautiful place to be.”

Crosby added that he never wanted to leave the Raiders in the first place and is focused on continuing to be a great member of the organization.

“People don’t even understand, I never wanted to leave in the first place,” Crosby said. “But people have their own opinions on that. And that is what it is. And that’s part of it. I never, ever wanted to leave this place. … I don’t do business. I’m not on the business side. I’m not on the third floor. So I don’t know. I’m not a mind reader. I’m not a future predictor. I’m not going to do that. I’m going to be present. I’m going to be the best Raider I can be for as long as I possibly can be. And, yeah, I do want to be here. And I do plan on winning here. And I do plan on continuing improving as a player and a person. And that’s all I can control.”
