Mike McCarthy In Line To Be Browns’ Next Head Coach?

Update:

Bob McMamaman of the Arizona Republic is hearing that former Packers HC Mike McCarthy will be the next head coach of the Browns.

This would be a really quick hire for the Browns, seeing as their season just ended and they were expected to cast a wide net in their head-coaching search over the next few weeks.

According to John Kryk of the Toronto Sun, the Cleveland Browns have reached out to Mike McCarthy about their head-coaching vacancy.

Reports have linked McCarthy to the Browns for some time now, given that he has ties to several members of the front office and could work to develop QB Baker Mayfield.

Even so, the Browns are expected to cast a wide net in their coaching search with interim HC Gregg Williams being among those considered for the job.

Patriots OC Josh McDaniels has also come up as a potential option for the Browns as well.

McCarthy, 55, began his NFL coaching career with the Chiefs back in 1993 as an offensive quality control coordinator. He bounced around with the Packers, Saints and 49ers before the Packers hired him as their head coach in 2006.

The Packers made the decision to move on from McCarthy following their disappointing loss to the Cardinals.

During his 13-year tenure in Green Bay, McCarthy has led the Packers to a record of 125-77-2 (61.8 percent), which includes nine playoff appearances and a Super Bowl title in 2010.

We’ll have more regarding McCarthy and the Browns as the news is available.
