Cardinals Optimistic WR Larry Fitzgerald Will Be Back In Arizona Next Year

Cardinals president Michael Bidwill believes WR Larry Fitzgerald will be back with the team in 2015.

Iโ€™m sure weโ€™ll get it worked out,” Bidwill said, via Josh Weinfuss of ESPN. “Weโ€™ve had a couple of conversations that I think were productive so weโ€™ll continue those discussions.

โ€œWithout getting into too much, I think itโ€™s perfect for us and itโ€™s perfect for him,โ€ Bidwill said. โ€œAnd we should be able to work this out.โ€

  • Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reported a weekย ago that the Cardinals and representatives for Fitzgerald have had “positive, but preliminary” discussions regarding a new contract.
  • Sources tell Somers that the two sides yet to discussย money, so theyย are clearly in the early stages of negotiations.

Previous reports have said Arizona is expected to ask Fitzgerald to make a pay cut from hisย $15 million salary for the 2015 season.

However, Cardinals GM Steve Keim told reporters a few weeks back that they have already factored in Fitzgerald’s staggering cap figure into their financial situation.

Fitzgerald, 31, is inย the fourth year of hisย eight-year, $128.5 million contractย that includedย $50 million guaranteed. After reworking his contract,ย Fitzgerald received anย $11.75 million signing bonus and has a base salary of $1 million for the 2014 season.

Next year, Fitzgerald has an $8 million roster bonus that’s due in March to go along with his base salary of $8 million in 2015.

After that, his salaries are $15 million and $14.75 million forย the final two years of the agreement.

Fitzgerald finished the regular season withย 63ย catchesย for 784 yards and two touchdowns over the course of 14 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 31ย receiver out of 110 qualifying players.
