Sean McManus ofย CBS Sports announcedย on Tuesday thatย they have hired former Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez as a studio analyst for their NFL Todayย pregame show.
Interestingly enough,ย Gonzalez will replaceย Dan Marino and Shannon Sharpe who have been with the show for a number of years now.
โHaving just stepped off the playing field, Tony brings a fresh and insightful perspective,โ said McManus. โAs a future Hall of Famer, we are excited for him to share his knowledge, experiences and opinions with our viewers. Tony was one of the most respected and hardworking players in the NFL and a tremendous teammate. We look forward to him bringing these attributes to CBS Sports.โ
The newย NFL TODAY show will be comprised ofย James Brown,ย Bill Cowher, Boomer Esiasonย and Gonzalez.
โWhile we welcome Tony, we want to acknowledgeย Dan Marinoย andย Shannon Sharpeย who have contributed greatly to the success of THE NFL TODAY for more than a decade,โ added McManus. โDan and Shannon are true Hall of Famers on the field and in front of the camera. As they pursue other professional opportunities, we thank them for their hard work and dedication and wish them nothing but the best.โ
Gonzalez, 37, was believed to be seeking opportunities in television as early as last year. He recently hinted that he would be open to joining a contender later in the season next year, but this essentially eliminates any possibility of this.

Good call. Neither Sharpe nor Marino were very good as analysts, and Sharpe was especially annoying.
The analyst gods were listening! Shannon Sharpe was the worst! Dan was OK in my opinion… I can now watch a pre-game show on CBS again.
