According to Field Yates, the Chargers have exercised their fifth-year option on DE Joey Bosa.
Bosa missed much of the 2018 season, but this was still an easy decision for the Chargers as Bosa has recorded 28.5 career sacks in 35 games.
The fifth-year option is worth $17.128 million for Bosa and becomes fully guaranteed at the start of the 2020 league year.
It’s worth mentioning the fifth-year option is guaranteed for injury only and won’t prevent the two parties from working on an extension in the next year or so.
Bosa, 23, is a former first-round pick of the Chargers back in 2016. He’s entering the fourth year of his four-year, $25.8 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $720,000 over the final year of the agreement.
In 2018, Bosa appeared in seven games for the Chargers and recorded 23 tackles, 5.5 sacks and a fumble recovery.
