According to Mike Fisher, the Cowboys have hired former NFL QB Scott Tolzien as an assistant coach.
Tolzien worked this past season as an analyst scouting opponents for Wisconsin. He’s familiar with Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy, having played for him for three years as a backup with the Packers.
Tolzien, 32, signed with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of Wisconsin in 2011. The Chargers waived him coming out of the preseason and he was claimed by the 49ers.
San Francisco waived Tolzien during the preseason in 2013 and he caught on with the Packers practice squad before later being promoted to the active roster. He spent three years in Green Bay before signing with the Colts as an unrestricted free agent in 2016.
After going unsigned following the expiration of his contract in 2018, Tolzien retired in 2019.
For his career, Tolzien appeared in 10 games and completed 60.3 percent of his passes for 1,065 yards, two touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also rushed for one touchdown.
