Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Cowboys HC Jason Garrett’s job is through the balance of the season and they’re not looking to replace him midseason.
According to Rapoport, the Cowboys have “strongly considered” coaching changes this year including before the season when Garrett elected to keep OC Scott Linehan and most recently during the bye week. Rapoport says that at one point he thought Linehan was going to be fired midseason, but Dallas elected to part ways with their offensive line coach instead.
In the event the Cowboys fired Garrett at the season, Rapoport says that both Jerry and Stephen Jones have an “affinity” for Oklahoma HC Lincoln Riley.
Garrett, 52, began his NFL coaching career with the Dolphins back in 2005 as their quarterbacks coach. After two years in Miami, the Cowboys hired him as their offensive coordinator and he eventually worked his way up to head coach.
Over the course of his eight years in charge of the Cowboys, Garrett has led the team to a record of 70-58 (54.7 percent), which includes two playoff appearances.
We’ll have more regarding Garrett as the news is available.
