Ian Rapoport of NFL Mediaย reports that Cowboys backup QB Zac Dysert is expected to miss the entire 2017 season after undergoing surgery to repair a herniated disc.
Dysert was the team’s No. 3 quarterback behind Dak Prescott and Kellen Moore, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see them work out a few players in the coming days to fill out their roster at the position.
You can expect the Cowboys to place Dysert on injured reserve at some point in the near future.
Dysert, 27, is a former seventh-round pick of the Broncos back in 2013.ย He was placed on waivers by the Broncos at the start of the 2014 season, but they later added him to their practice squad.
The Bears claimed Dysert off of waivers a few days before the start of the season, but he was among their final roster cuts.ย After that,ย Dysert returned to the Texans, but wasย on and off of their practice squad beforeย later signing on to the Bills’ practice squad.
The Dolphins signed him to a future/reserve contract before later cutting him looseย coming out of the preseason. Dysert was on and off of the Cardinals’ practice squad throughout the 2016 season.
The Cardinals re-signed Dysert to a one-year exclusive rights contract this past March but was waived back in June. The Cowboys quickly claimed Dysert off of waivers.
Dysert has yet to appear in a regular-season NFL game.
