Cowboys Rule Out QB Andy Dalton, Starting Rookie Ben DiNucci

According to Michael Gehlken, the Cowboys have ruled out QB Andy Dalton from Week 8 due to a concussion and that seventh-round QB Ben DiNucci will make his first NFL start.

Earlier this week, Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy said that Dalton was still in concussion protocol and they are preparing as if DiNucci was going to start: โ€œHeโ€™s a confident young man. He has a lot of tools to work with.โ€ (NFLTR)

Dalton, 32, is a former second-round pick of the Bengals back in 2011. He was entering the final year of his seven-year, $97.09 million contract, which included $17 million guaranteed when Cincinnati cut him loose.

Dalton stood to make a base salary of $17.5 million in 2020 when the Bengals opted to release him. He signed a one-year deal with the Cowboys back in May.

In 2020, he’s appeared in four games and recorded 52 completions on 85 pass attempts (61.2 percent) for 452 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions.
