Cowboys TE Jason Witten told reporters following Sunday’s game that he intends to return for the 2018 season.
“I see too much positive,” Witten said, via Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News. “I really do. I feel too good to think that would end, so my intentions are to keep playing.”
Witten indicated several months ago that he wasn’t sure if he would continue his NFL career beyond this season. However, it sounds like he’s set on playing at least another year and hopefully helping the Cowboys win a championship.
“There’s not always a fairytale ending. I realize that,” Witten added. “Nobody is more critical of themselves than me. I understand the expectation. But I see too many positives and feel too good to think that it would end right now.”
Witten, 35, is a former third-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2003. He was in the first year of his five-year, $29.6 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $5.75 million for the 2018 season.
In 2017, Witten has appeared in 15 games for the Cowboys and caught 61 passes for 543 yards receiving and five touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 27 tight end out of 71qualifying players.
We’ll have more regarding Witten’s future as the news is available.
