The Cowboys have worked out TEs Tyrone Swoopes and Zach Conque, per ESPN’s Todd Archer.
Dallas has four tight ends hurt and a fifth, Jason Witten, won’t play in Thursday’s preseason finale, so they need help at the position.
Swoopes, 24, signed on with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of Texas back in May of 2017. He converted to play tight end in the NFL after appearing as a quarterback during his college career.
He has bounced on and off Seattle’s practice squad since joining the league. He signed on with the Seahawks on a futures deal this past January. He was released with a settlement from Seattle’s injured reserve list in August.
In 2018, Swoopes appeared in one game for the Seahawks and caught one pass for 23 yards.
During his four-year college career as a quarterback for Texas, Swoopes recorded 281 completions on 499 attempts (56.3 percent) for 3,038 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.
Conque, 25, wound up signing a three-year, $1.66 million contract with the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of Stephen F. Austin in 2017. He was set to make base salaries of $465,000 and $555,000 over the first two years of the contract when the Texans cut him loose coming out of the preseason.
Conque had a brief stint on the Jets’ practice squad before the Jaguars signed him to a contract. Unfortunately, Jacksonville waived him with an injury designation and he later reverted to their injured reserve list.
From there, the Jaguars waived Conque with an injury settlement last year.
During his college career between Texans-San Antonio and Stephen F. Austin, Conque played quarterback and threw for 6,867 yards while completing 57.3 percent of his passes to go along with 46 touchdowns and 24 interceptions. he also rushed for 1,605 yards and 34 touchdowns over the course of 36 games.
