Deal Between Giants & Odell Beckham “Close” But Not Done Yet

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a league source with knowledge of the situation, reports that the Giants are close to a deal with WR Odell Beckham Jr, but nothing is finalized right now.

Florio says that word around the NFL is that Beckham is privately claiming that a new contract is in place.

According to Florio, the two parties appear to be on target to have an agreement in place on a long-term extension before the start of the regular season.

Last week,ย Jordan Raanan of ESPN reported that the Giants and Beckham had made progress on what is expected to be a record-breaking contract and there is “reasonable optimism” that they could get a deal done before the start of the regular season.

The numbers to watch for Beckham areย the $17 million per year the Steelers are payingย Antonio Brown andย the $55 million in total guarantees Mike Evans got from the Buccaneers.

It’s worth mentioning that the Giants will have their franchise tag available to use next year in the event that a deal is unable to be reached.

Beckham, 25, was taken with the No. 12 overall pick by the Giants back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $10,406,198 contract but the Giants picked up his fifth-year option last year.

Beckham stands to make a base salary of $8,459,000 for the 2018 season before becoming an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career next year.

In 2017, Beckham Jr’s season was cut short when he suffered a season-ending injury. He caught 25 passes for 302 yards receiving and three touchdowns over the course of four games.

We have him featured in our Top 25 – 2019 NFL Free Agents list.
