Dolphins HC Brian Flores announced following Thursday’s game that Ryan Fitzpatrick will be their starting quarterback in 2019.
โAfter a thorough evaluation, OTAs, training camps, games, we felt that this was the best move for the team,โ Flores said, per Adam Beasley.
Recent indications were that Fitzpatrick was going to get the Week 1 nod, so this isn’t a big surprise. Fitzpatrick beats out Josh Rosen, who was acquired in a draft trade with the Cardinals, for the starting job.
Regarding Rosen, Flores said: โI think heโll get there. When? I donโt know.โ
Fitzpatrick, 36, is a former seventh-round pick of the Rams back in 2005. He’s played for several teams over the course of his 13-year NFL career including the Bengals, Bills, Titans, Texans and Jets before he signed on with the Buccaneers last year.
The Dolphins signed Fitzpatrick to a two-year contract worth $11 million contract this past March.
In 2018, Fitzpatrick appeared in eight games for the Buccaneers and completed 66.7 percent of his passes for 2,366 yards, 17 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He also rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns.
Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 9 quarterback out of 38 qualifying players.
