On Wednesday, a report surfaced that Eagles DE Chris Long was mulling retirement, despite the Eagles offering him a restructured contract that included a pay raise for the 2018 season.

Long said during his Waterboys initiative in St. Louis Wednesday night, via BleedingGreenNation.com, that he’s leaning toward returning for the upcoming season, despite the retirement talk.

Yeah, well, they’re going to give me more money […] They feel bad because I gave my salary away [last season]. (joking)

No, but for me, at my age every year, it’s important to make a decision, and take self-inventory. Is your body there? Is your mind in it? Do you have the passion? Because it takes a lot. And for me, just every year, I’m a year at a time. From here on out. For however long I play.

Philly’s been awesome, like I said. They kind of adopted me as, like, family. So that definitely factors in to everything. And the chance to repeat [as Super Bowl champions].

I’m still supposedly “mulling it over,” but I’m leaning on going back and playing.

So yeah. I mean, I hadn’t even answered any questions about that but there you go.

Yesterday, Field Yates reported that the Eagles had reworked Long’s contract in recent days and guaranteed him $3 million for the 2018 season.

According to Yates, Long’s base salary was increased to $2.5 million guaranteed from the $1 million non-guaranteed he was set to make. The Eagles also eliminated the $750,000 in per-game roster bonuses and $750,000 in incentives including in his deal.

Long, 32, is a former No. 2 overall pick of the Rams back in 2008. He spent eight years with the Rams before he was cut loose in 2016 and later signed a one-year contract with the Patriots.

The Eagles signed Long to a two-year contract last year and he’s set to make a base salary of $1 million for the 2018 season.

In 2017, Long appeared in all 16 games and recorded 28 tackles, five sacks and four forced fumbles for the Eagles. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 30 edge rusher out of 106 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Long and the Eagles as the news is available.
