Manish Mehta reports that Eagles VP of player personnel Joe Douglas remains the favorite to be hired as the Jets’ next GM.
Mehta says that unless Douglas ends up being unimpressive in his interview with Jets CEO Christopher Johnson this weekend or there’s a financial hangup, he appears in line to be hired.
According to Albert Breer, Douglas is scheduled to interview with the Jets on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Jason La Canfora writes that the expectation around the NFL is that Douglas gets the job. Sources have told La Canfora that there was already some contact between the Jets and Douglas prior to his interview being scheduled and “people in other front offices would be shocked if he does not take this job.”
In the event Douglas does not get the Jets’ job, La Canfora says Bears executive Champ Kelly is viewed as being next in line.
As for the Eagles, La Canfora reports that they were expecting Douglas’ departure in 2019 and could promote Andrew Berry if/when he departs.
La Canfora expects the Jets and Douglas to have an agreement in place by next week.
Douglas began working for the Ravens in their personnel department in 2000 and spent 15 years with the organization.
The Bears hired him as their director of college scouting for the 2015 season.
Douglas spent one year in Chicago before joining the Eagles as their vice president of player personnel the following year.
We’ll have more regarding the Jets’ GM search as the news is available.
