Eagles veteran RBย Darren Sproles tells Ian Rapoport of NFL Media that he’s leaning toward returning for the 2018 season.
According to Sproles, he doesn’t want his NFL career to end with him being on injured reserve.
โI want to go out on my terms,โ Sproles said.
This is the first time Sproles has indicated that he may hold off on retirement.
โIโm going to wait until the offseason and see how I feel,โ Sproles told Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer a month ago.ย โI donโt have to play next year, but Iโm leaning towards coming back. I canโt end like this.โ
Sproles, unfortunately, sufferedย a torn ACL and a broken arm a few weeks into the regular season and was later placed on injured reserve.
While there has been a lot of talk about Sproles calling it a career the past few years, it sounds there’s a decent chance we’ll see him back in the NFL next season.
Sproles, 34, is a former fourth-round pick of the Chargers back in 2005. He spent five years in San Diego before signing on with the Saints in 2011. New Orleans later traded him to the Eagles for the 2014 season.
Sproles played out the final year of his two-year, $8 million contract and made a base salary of $4 million for the 2017 season. He was testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
In 2017, Sproles had appeared in three games and rushed for 61 yards on 15 carries (4.1 YPC) to go along with seven receptions for 73 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
