Ralph Vacchiano of SNY reports that the Giants have discussed the possibility of trading for Cardinals QB Josh Rosen internally, but these talks were “extremely preliminary” and they aren’t sure right now if they’d prefer him to the quarterbacks in this year’s draft class.
Multiple Giants sources tell Vacchiano that all they’ve heard so far are “rumors” that the Cardinals plan to take Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray No. 1 overall and put Rosen on the block.
However, Vacchiano says that the Giants are in “wait-and-see mode” right now to see if the Cardinals decide to trade Rosen and what their asking price is.
A few weeks ago, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that multiple teams inquired about Rosen at the Combine last week, but Arizona did not give those teams any indication that they’re willing to trade Rosen.
According to Schefter, this doesnโt mean that the Cardinals wonโt end up shopping Rosen eventually, but they haven’t up to this point.
Schefter says that the Cardinals have not responded to the overtures that theyโve received from other teams while theyโre still going through the draft evaluation process.
There has been plenty of talk about Rosen being traded this offseason and some have said that the Cardinals may only be able to get a third-round pick for him at this point in time.
Of course, it’s possible that the compensation for Rosen could increase as teams start to show interest, but it’s obviously not ideal to trade a quarterback you used a first-round pick on a year later for just a third-round selection.
Rosen, 22, is a former first-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2018. He signed a four-year, $17,664,284 contract that includes an $10,926,792 signing bonus.
The contract includes a fifth-year option for the Cardinals to pick up in 2021.
In 2018, Rosen appeared in 14 games for the Cardinals and completed 55.2 percent of his passes for 2,278 yards, 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
We’ll have more regarding Rosen as the news is available.
