According to Ian Rapoport, the Giants have emerged as a legitimate possibility for Cowboys HC Jason Garrett if he’s not retained by Dallas following the season.
Rapoport says New York would be Garrett’s preferred destination if he can’t stay in Dallas. Rapoport adds the Giants were interested in Garrett back in 2014 and ready to move on from Tom Coughlin before Garrett signed an extension with Dallas.
New York would obviously have to move on from current HC Pat Shurmur, who has struggled in his two seasons with the Giants with a 7-19 record so far.
Garrett is entering the final year of his contract with the Cowboys and is rumored to need to make the playoffs at a minimum in order to secure his future in Dallas.
Garrett, 52, began his NFL coaching career with the Dolphins back in 2005 as their quarterbacks coach. After two years in Miami, the Cowboys hired him as their offensive coordinator and he eventually worked his way up to head coach.
Over the course of his eight years in charge of the Cowboys, Garrett has led the team to a record of 70-58 (54.7 percent), which includes three playoff appearances.
We’ll have more regarding Garrett as the news is available.
