Giants Release WR Mario Manningham From I.R.

Rand Getlin of Yahoo Sports is reporting that the Giants are releasing veteran WR Mario Manningham from injured reserve on Tuesday.

The Giants placed Manningham on season-ending injured reserve a month ago with a calf injury. Teams generally release players from injured reserve once they’re back to full strength, so this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

Manningham, 28, signed a one-year, $795,000 contract with the Giants back in March. Last year, he was limited to playing in six games, catching nine passes for 85 yards while playing for the 49ers.

There are a number of teams around the league that could use some additional help at receiver, so we’ll have to see if he’s brought in for workouts in the coming days.
