According to Field Yates, the Giants worked out running backs Benny Cunningham, Fozzy Whittaker and Zach Zenner on Tuesday.
New York is looking for running back help following the injury to starter Saquon Barkley.
Zenner, 27, signed on with the Lions as an undrafted free agent out of South Dakota State back in 2015. He played out the final year of his three-year, $1.58 million contract but the Lions declined to tender him an offer as a restricted free agent and tested the market last year.
Detroit re-signed Zenner, but was placed on injured reserve coming out of the preseason with a back injury. The Lions would later waive him with an injury settlement only to re-sign him in November.
Zenner returned to the Lions this past March but was cut loose at the end of August.
In 2018, Zenner appeared in eight games for the Lions and rushed for 265 yards on 55 carries (4.8 YPC) to go along with seven receptions for 56 yards receiving and three total touchdowns.
Cunningham, 29, wound up signing on with the Rams as an undrafted free agent out of Middle Tennessee State back in 2013. After four years with the Rams, the Bears signed him to a one-year contract in 2017 and again for 2018.
The Jaguars signed Cunningham to a contract back in April before releasing him in August.
In 2018, Cunningham appeared in 15 games and rushed for 20 yards on 11 carries (1.8 YPC) to go along with one reception for nine yards receiving. He also contributed 173 kick return yards.
Whittaker, 30, originally signed on with the Cardinals during the 2012 season. He lasted just a few months in Arizona before he was waived and later claimed off of waivers by the Chargers.
After a brief stint with the Browns, the Panthers signed Whittaker to a contract in 2014 and he’s spent the past five seasons in Carolina. Unfortunately, Whittaker suffered a season-ending ACL tear last May.
In 2017, Whittaker appeared in 12 games for the Panthers and rushed for 18 yards on seven carries (2.6 YPC) to go along with five receptions for 47 yards receiving and one touchdown. He also contributed 110 kick return yards.
