Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Greg Schiano โlooms as a possible replacementโ for Brian Flores, who is expected to become the next head coach of the Dolphins once New Englandโs season is officially over.
Last week, Ohio State announced that Schiano wouldnโt be returning as defensive coordinator for the season 2019 and that he was expected to pursue NFL opportunities.
Schiano has ties to Patriots HC Bill Belichick, so itโs not a huge surprise to hear that he could land in New England.
Mike Reiss says that if Schiano were to be hired by the Patriots, itโs likely that Belichick would continue to be notably involved during the week of preparation, in terms of his presence in some full-unit defensive meetings.
Schiano, 52, began his college coaching career back in 1989 as a graduate assistant for Rutgers. Since then, Schiano worked at Penn State, Miami and for the Chicago Bears before he was hired as the Buccaneers head coach in 2012.
Schiano lasted two seasons in Tampa Bay before he was fired by the Buccaneers. After a few years out of college, Schiano was hired to run Ohio Stateโs defense.
Last year, Schiano actually agreed to a deal to become the next head coach at Tennessee before the school backed out of the deal, due to backlash they received from the move.
During his two seasons as the Buccaneers head coach, Schiano posted a record of 11-21 (34.4 percent).
