According to Ian Rapoport, there’s a “legit possibility” that the Dolphins will fire HC Adam Gase.
However, Rapoport admits that no firm decision has been made by owner Stephen Ross and Gase’s status is still “up in the air” right now.
Rapoport adds that if Gase is fired by Miami, he’s likely to emerge as one of the top head-coaching candidates with the Browns being a possibility, given that owner Jimmy Haslam has been a fan of Gase for a while now.
Recent reports have said that major changes are likely to come for the Dolphins after the season and that executive VP Mike Tannenbaum figures to be among those who are out.
Gase has been mentioned as being on the hot seat, but some reports have tossed out the possibility of the Dolphins asking him to give up some control over personnel so they can target a new GM.
Gase, 40, began his NFL coaching career with the Lions back in 2003 as a scouting assistant. He spent five years in Detroit before taking a job with the 49ers for the 2008 season.
The Broncos would later hire Gase as their WRs coach and he worked his way up to offensive coordinator before they replaced their coaching staff in 2015. Gase spent a year with the Bears before the Dolphins hired him as their head coach in 2016.
During his three years as the Dolphins’ head coach, Gase has led Miami to a record of 23-24 (48.9 percent), which includes one playoff appearance.
We’ll have more regarding Gase as the news is available.
