Mixed Signals Regarding Titans Decision To Franchise Cortland Finnegan

NFL Network’s  Jason LaCanfora reported that the Titans are “likely” to use their franchise tag to keep CB Cortland Finnegan in Tennessee next season but since then, ESPN’s Adam Schefter has reported the contrary.

Schefter sources have told him that the Titans will not use the tag on Finnegan and will instead allow him to leave via free agency.

The two sides aren’t believed to have had any long-term contract discussions and it’s been widely assumed that Finnegan could be playing for one of his former coaches in either Jim Schwartz of the Lions or Jeff Fisher of the Rams.

The tag would cost them $10.5 million in 2012 if they choose to use it on him.
