NFC South Notes: Buccaneers, Falcons, Panthers, Saints

Buccaneers

  • If the Buccaneers trade a tight end, ESPN’s Bill Barnwell thinks it makes the most sense to deal veteran Cameron Brate because of his higher salary.
  • The NFL confirmed there was no violation of offseason work rules when Buccaneers QB Tom Brady went to OC Byron Leftwich‘s house: โ€œIt was a brief personal visit and Tom picked up the playbook.โ€ (Tom Pelissero)
  • Buccaneers rookie OL John Molchon‘s contract includes $65,000 guaranteed and a $15,000 signing bonus. (Aaron Wilson)

Falcons

  • ESPN’s Bill Barnwell points out Falcons P Ryan Allen is on the roster bubble after Atlanta used a seventh-round pick on P Sterling Hofrichter. The two will compete and Hofrichter has the added bonus of being able to kick off.

Panthers

  • ESPN’s Bill Barnwell thinks the Cardinals will try to trade LB Haason Reddick to the Panthers and his former college coach Matt Rhule after declining his fifth-year option and adding replacements this offseason.
  • Barnwell adds Panthers CB Corn Elder is a longshot to make the team despite Carolina’s weakness at the position.
  • The Athletic’s Joe Person adds Panthers RB Mike Davis is a potential cap casualty, as he’s due $3 million.
  • Person thinks Panthers OT Taylor Moton is next in line for a contract extension in Carolina.
  • Person mentions Carolina passed on LB Isaiah Simmons for DT Derrick Brown in part because they already have a hybrid-type linebacker in Shaq Thompson.
  • With a projected starting lineup of Donte Jackson, fourth-round rookie Troy Pride and Elder at cornerback, Person thinks the Panthers almost have to add another veteran or two in the secondary.

Saints

  • ESPN’s Bill Barnwell writes the focus on the interior of the offensive line by New Orleans could be a bad sign for G Larry Warford, who is due $8.5 million in 2020.
  • The Saints signed undrafted G Calvin Throckmorton to a rookie contract that includes $122,500 guaranteed and a $12,500 signing bonus. (Aaron Wilson)
