Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports that the Tennessee Titans will be hosting a number of quarterback prospects in the coming days. Wyatt specifically lists Jake Locker, Andy Dalton,ย Blaine Gabbert andย Ryan Mallett as guys that they’ll will be visiting with.
Tennessee has as big of a need at quarterback as any team in the NFL but their main issue is that they’re sitting at No. 8 overall which should be just outside of one of the top-two QB’s (Cam Newton and Blaine Gabbert) but way to early to take a project player like Dalton, Locker, or Mallett. The Titans won’t be on the clock again until No. 39 which leaves them a really tough position.
Waiting until the second-round could cost them considering that there are a number of teams with a similar need which is why the most logical decision would be to make a move at some point. Either they could trade up for Blaine Gabbert or they could trade back into the first-round for one of the other players. Tennessee could also stick with the No. 8 pick and take the best available player and trade back into the first-round or possibly with the Patriots for the No. 33 pick.
Basically, they have options if their willing to take some amount of risk but then again it’s no greater risk than drafting the third quarterback at No. 8 overall would be.
