Packers Activate QB Aaron Rodgers From Injured Reserve

The Green Bay Packers have officially activated QB Aaron Rodgers from the injured reserve list on Saturday, according to Mike Garafolo.

The Packers waived QB Joe Callahan to make room for Rodgers on the 53-man roster.

Rodgers announced Tuesday that he’s been medically cleared to return from the broken collarbone that led to him being placed on injured reserve.

Rodgers told reporters that if he had any concerns about his collarbone and how it would hold up, he wouldn’t have returned from injured reserve.

“I wouldn’t be standing here ready to play if I wasn’t confident I could go out there and play the way that I’ve always played,” Rodgers said. “There’s just no point in doing that. It’s a risky game; it’s a dangerous game. There’s risks every time you step on the field.

“With the concussions that have happened in this game, that, to me, is something to be more worried about than altering your play to take a shot and landing on your shoulder again. That’s something that we deal with and that’s why we love this game. I think [Pittsburgh Steelers safety] Mike Mitchell had a lot of good points when he was talking about the nature of this game. It’s a physical game, and you have to go out and play as much as you can without fear. That’s why I’m here, that’s why we’re cleared and that’s why I’m playing.”

Green Bay officially designated Rodgers to return from injured reserve a few weeks ago, which opened a three-week window of time for the Packers to add him to their active roster.

Rodgers suffered a displaced collarbone fracture that required two plates and 13 screws inserted to help solidify the fracture and accelerate the healing process.

Rodgers, 34, is a former first-round pick of the Packers back in 2005. He’s currently in the fifth year of his seven-year, $130.75 million contract that included $54 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $12.55 million and $19.8 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Rodgers has appeared in six games for the Packers and thrown for 1,385 yards while completing 66.3 percent of his passes to go along with 13 touchdowns and three interceptions. He has also rushed for 83 yards.
