Packers Looking To Trade Up From No. 14 Overall?

According to Ian Rapoport, the Packers are among the teams plotting a potential trade up from No. 14 for a top-tier prospect.

Rapoport notes that this would be Green Bay’s first opening-round trade since they moved up to get OLB Clay Matthews back in 2009.

This fits with a report fromTony Pauline,ย who mentioned that the Packers would consider possibly trading up to get either FSU Sย Derwin James or OSU CB Denzel Wardย if the opportunity presents itself.

Ryan Wood also hears that the Packers would like to make a splash this year, but trading down from No. 14 isn’t out of the question either. Wood says that the closer we get to round one, the less likely it appears Green Bay will pick at No. 14.

Green Bay has the most draft picks of any team to work with this year, so they could afford to make a move up the board for the right player.

At No. 14 overall, there’s no guarantee that one of the top defensive prospects ends up being available to them, which could prompt new GM Brian Gutekunst to move up for a player they feel can be a core addition.

We’ll have more regarding the Packers as the news is available.
