According to Rob Demovsky, the Packers brought in six free agents for workouts on Tuesday, including DTs Sylvester Williams and Mike Pennel.
The full list of tryouts includes:
- TE Rico Gathers
- TE Cole Wick
- TE Ethan Wolf
- DT Sylvester Williams
- DT Mike Pennel
- DT Adolphus Washington
Williams, 30, was taken with the No. 28 overall pick back in the 2013 NFL Draft out of North Carolina. He played out the final year of his rookie contract after the Broncos declined to pick up his fifth-year option in 2017, becoming an unrestricted free agent.
The Titans signed Williams to a three-year, $16.5 million contract that included $7.25 million guaranteed in 2017 before releasing him the following year. After a brief stint with the Lions, Williams signed on with the Dolphins and finished out 2018 in Miami.
He signed on with New Orleans back in May following a workout but was among their final roster cuts coming out of the preseason.
This is the first reported interest in Williams since becoming a free agent.
In 2018, Williams appeared in 14 games for the Lions and Dolphins and recorded 14 tackles and no sacks.
Pennel, 28, wound up signing on with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Colorado State-Pueblo back in 2014. He was waived towards the end of 2016 and was later claimed off of waivers by the Jets.
The Jets re-signed Pennel to a three-year contract worth up to $12 million in 2018 but New York declined his team-option after one season. He signed on with the Patriots back in March but was cut loose in late August.
Pennel has worked out for the Colts, Lions, and Cardinals since becoming a free agent, but left each team without a contract.
In 2018, Pennel appeared in all 16 games for the Jets and recorded 27 tackles, no sacks an a pass defense.
