Panthers Have Three-Year Offer Out For G Greg Van Roten, Jets & Lions Also In Mix

According to Joe Person, the Panthers have a three-year offer on the table for G Greg Van Roten

Person notes the Panthers have a strong value on Van Roten, as if they lost him they would be without both starting guards heading into 2020 after trading away Trai Turner

Van Roten has also been mentioned as a target of the Jets in free agency, and potentially one of their top options given that New York missed on the top guards. Dave Birkett mentions the Lions are also another team that’s involved.

Van Roten, 30, originally signed on with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Pennsylvania back in 2012. He was, unfortunately, released coming out of the preseason but later signed on to the Packers’ practice squad.

After the Packers moved on from Van Roten in 2014, he had a brief stint with the Seahawks before eventually signing on with the Jaguars in February of 2017. Unfortunately, Jacksonville cut Van Roten loose after the draft and he eventually signed a one-year contract with the Panthers.

As a restricted free agent, Van Roten instead signed a two-year extension with Carolina ahead of the 2018 season.

In 2019, Van Roten started 11 games for the Panthers at left guard before landing on injured reserve. He was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 23 guard out of 80 qualifying players.
