According to Jason La Canfora, the Patriots are once again in the market for a pass catcher ahead of next week’s trade deadline.
New England dealt a second-round pick to the Falcons for WR Mohamed Sanu last year but cut the veteran coming out of camp after an injury-riddled few months.
The team is still looking to make a move this year and La Canfora notes they need speed and downfield playmaking ability. The Patriots’ best receiver is 34-year-old Julian Edelman.
“It’s the same thing as it was before,” a scout told La Canfora. “Edelman is slowing down and isn’t going to give you the YAC like he could before. They don’t get anything out of their tight ends at all in the passing game, and they don’t do anything deep, because they can’t. The line is all over the place from a personnel standpoint. There’s only so much you can do with that cast of characters.”
La Canfora notes some of the players New England could pursue include Vikings WR Adam Thielen, Texans WR Will Fuller, Jets WR Breshad Perriman or Jets TE Chris Herndon.
